For those searching for an unexplored destination in the bustling town of Darjeeling, Lamahatta should be on your list. Located 53 km from Bhuntar and 10 km from Jakhol, this village is famous for its silence, green valley, and panoramic view of the Great Himalayas. Lamahatta is located around 23 km from the hustle and bustle of Darjeeling, giving one a much-needed break from all the noise and clamor.
Lamahatta is a small village situated 5,700 ft above sea level, surrounded by ascending dense forests of Pine and Oak trees. It is routed to the Sikkim border and has the prospect of beautiful scenery of the Kangchenjunga range, the world's third highest. The environment has no disturbance from human activities, and the air is fresh from the mountain, which makes the place quiet and ideal for people to contemplate.
Unlike other famous places of tourist significance situated in this part of the world, Lamahatta has not yet been featured as a main tourist attraction. The village has not yet been commercialized; thus, tourists find it ideal for the real experience of the Darjeeling hills.
Lamahatta, as an idea and a destination, has to offer the primary sell or main attraction, which is nature. While walking around the village, you will likely see vegetation, hills, and a rich variety of flowers. The Lamahatta Eco Park, one of the region's main wonders, offers beautiful plant and animal life features. There are well-tended & adequately lit paved pathways throughout the park that enable persons to go walking and at the same time feel that they are in the middle of the countryside.
The center of attraction of the region is the Kangchenjunga Range, where fascinating views are available to watch best in the morning and evening. Other snow-clad peaks in the area include Mount Pandim and Mount Kabru, and thus, good photography prospects from the location are possible from the top of the peaks of Kangchenjunga. Watching the play of golden light in the mountains in the morning or evening is breathtaking.
While it is not as adventurous as some hill stations, Lamahatta is definitely not boring, providing several opportunities for guests to embrace nature.
Lamahatta is gifted with rich forests and hills; thus, it provides an excellent opportunity for nature walks and trekking. Lamahatta Eco Park is an area where one can stroll through the woods and spot local wildlife and plants. In the village, there are several trekking paths to take to the scenic views of the surrounding area. However, These trails are not very hilly or steep and are suitable for family and amateur hikers.
Lamahatta is the perfect site as it has enormous biodiversity. Many species of birds, including Himalayan birds such as the Blue Whistling Thrush, Red-billed Blue Magpie, and several Pheasants, Wildfowls are also found here. Bird watching is easier in the early morning since birds are most active now.
The region consists of several monasteries to understand more about the culture and lifestyle of people. Another popular tourist destination is Singtom Tea Estate. Notably, there is a monastery in it. The environment described in these monasteries is quiet and calm, making these monasteries a good place for a person to contemplate.
Be it a professional or a mere amateur, the destination provides you with some of the best spots to photograph nature’s bounty in Lamahatta. The village provides accommodation in eco-friendly resorts or homestays for those who wish to get fully engrossed in Lamahatta’s hospitality. It can be seen that they are intended to provide all the comforts of the modern world with a spirit and style that is native to the forest.
These facilities give the guests a flavor of homestay, living in native families and savoring local hand-prepared hill foods. The generosity of the local inhabitants also contributes to the picturesque feelings of the tourists who want to stay and explore the rural lifestyle of Darjeeling Hills.
The season that is best suited for visiting Lamahatta is from March to June during summer and September to December in the post-monsoon season. This is a good season because the weather is not so hot nor too cold and is perfect for traveling and touristic activities. The humidity is high, with precipitation available from June to September, which is considered the monsoon period with frequent landslides in the area, which is unsuitable for traveling.

Dear Rakesh
Darjeeling, we found it better than what we expected. Weather conditions were awesome and we really enjoyed a lot. Main attractions like Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Batasia Loop, Toy Train Ride, Tea estates and view of Tiger Hill in the most impressive way. We stayed in a resort on the hill top that was truly wonderful place to stay and enjoy accommodation in a home like environment. Food was fine and according to your choice. We also purchased some handcrafted items from there. It was a wonderful trip for 5 nights 6 days that truly provide us a way of full refreshment.
