How to Reach Sikkim by Flight
The nearest airport to Sikkim is Pakyong Airport, which is around 35 kilometers away from Gangtok – the capital city of Sikkim. However, flying or reaching Pakyong may be tricky because of unfavorable weather. The better bet is to fly to Bagdogra Airport, which is in West Bengal and is roughly 124 km from Gangtok. Silly transportation is very much developed in most Indian cities, and from there, you get a shared or private taxi to Gangtok, which takes roughly 4 to 5 hours. To a certain extent, there are also helicopter services from Bagdogra for Gangtok, which are used subject to weather conditions and are faster and far more picturesque.
How to Reach Sikkim by Train
The nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri, West Bengal, approximately 93 miles away from Gangtok. Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai are the major cities near NJP with easy rail connectivity with NJP. By arriving at NJP, you can find shared or private cars to reach Gangtok. The road trip will take around 4-5 hours, and the views of mountains, rivers, and tea gardens are charming.

There are no many first-hand buses from other states to Sikkim but you can board buses to Siliguri from Kolkata or some other towns and cities. Different government and private buses operating from Siliguri’s Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminal, including taxis, also provide regular services to Gangtok. Buses, for instance, can take up to 5- 6 hours, while a taxi is a bit faster and more comfortable.
