Begin with the Ho Chi Minh Complex (outside view of the Mausoleum; entry on opening hours) and the one-pillar pagoda in the form of a lotus. Proceed to the Temple of Literature, the original national university of Vietnam, and a peaceful Confucian shrine. Take a local lunch (self-service) and then an exploration of the Old Quarter in the air (on foot) - option of cyclo ride, or guided tour in alleys whose air is full of fragrant herbs and incense.
